Video games are one of the best entertainment forms, and sometimes they get us angry as well. Most of the time, the death of a character in a game is a result of a tough-to-beat enemy or hard-to-learn controls, but there are also those instances when you die in the most absurd way. Throughout the years, I have undergone quite a number of deaths in games that made me question everything I thought about surviving. Let’s see some of the stupidest ways I died in video games.
One of the most frustrating deaths I encountered in Dark Souls, a game notorious for its extreme difficulty, was this one. I was progressing through a tough section, just barely dodging the enemies and surviving with a tiny amount of health left. I was trying to heal and therefore, ran to a corner where I thought that I would be safe. Unfortunately, I misjudged the situation and fell off the cliff by mistake. Right before I made the final crash, I was thinking to myself, "Click here, I will try again!" Still, he hasn’t learned his lesson, and thus, the pain became quite real—by his own doing, he fell to his death. It might sound funny, but the most dangerous thing in a game sometimes isn't the monster but gravity.
Another time, I got killed in a very ridiculous way while playing Grand Theft Auto V, which was very irritating yet funny. I had just stolen a car and was in high spirits as I drove around the town like I was a man without a care in the world. I chose to cut corners, and I for that, just full speed and a little ramp, and whoosh I was on the freeway. What I didn't count on was the dodgy tanker that parked just before the circle of fire. I was spun through the air by the explosive truck, and I was told by the game, "Click here to respawn," as my guy was thrown into oblivion. Seriously, the GTA series is a gambling game where the accidents are always just around the corner.
Time to take a look at the most comical deaths in Minecraft. After a long mining session, I finally spotted a rare diamond pocket and I was about to make the best armor in the game. The incident that took place making it to the top of the list was the fact I did not see a pool of lava and I stepped on it. My screen turned red and all my precious stones were gone even before I could react. While I was incredibly discouraged, I eventually understood that all the effort I had put into the game was a waste of time and could not help but laugh. The takeaway for me was the following: “Never dig straight down and always be cautious around lava.” “Click here for a second chance,” the game seemed to say. But, of course, it was too late.
We may get really annoyed when such ridiculous misfortunes happen, but in the end, they are what make video games so interesting to us. Those morbidly comic deaths add a level of lightheartedness to gaming's most serious moments. I am curious about the ridiculous way I will game on my next play session. Only time will tell!
